Meet the Team - Lucy Figiel
At Bluestripe, our strength lies in the people behind the work. In this series, we’re spotlighting the team members who help our clients’ stories make headlines.
First up, before she heads off on maternity leave, let’s get to know Lucy Figiel a bit better…
What’s your role at Bluestripe Group?
I’m an Associate Director on the PR team, which means I cover a lot of scope. I am the strategic lead for a number of our PR clients across adtech and media which I absolutely love. But I am also heavily involved in the wider business. I support new business, training, team management, culture, client services, line management, and more. I work closely with the other Associate Directors and the Bluestripe founders to drive Bluestripe forward.
What drew you to PR?
To be honest, I can’t remember as it was so long ago! I think it must have been while I was in sixth form and looking at options for university courses. PR always sounds sexy and exciting. You see it on TV or in movies and it’s glamourised, but in the reality of B2B PR it’s very different.
I studied Communications and Media at Bournemouth Uni and the PR unit was nothing like the real world. It’s quite an ambiguous career from the outside. Now, I haven’t left the PR-agency world for almost 10 years… so something is keeping me here!
How do you stay on top of trends in media, advertising and technology?
LinkedIn - always. I find out about trending news stories on the platform when scrolling in the morning. I also like that it’s where the industry is having discussions and raising opinions on trending topics. I love to have a nosey and read the comments section of a thread to see what people are saying. As a PR, it’s also an important tool to stay on top of journalist moves and connect with my network.
What tool or hack can you not live without at work?
Grammarly. It’s a godsend for someone who is prone to typos and can’t see their own mistakes (AKA. me).
If you could swap jobs with anyone at Bluestripe for a day, who would it be?
Definitely Justin Pearse. He’s got a very cool role. Not only is he well-known in the industry and super knowledgeable, but he also gets to meet so many people through what he does. Whether interviewing senior advertising executives for a New Digital Age feature, hosting podcasts with Martin Sorrell, or on stage with Gary Neville, his role is diverse and very people-focused. He’s always out and about, working hard on multiple projects, and fun to be around - it’s inspiring to see.
