Meet the Team - Nkechi Agu
Next up in our series spotlighting the brilliant team behind the scenes is Nkechi, whose creativity and drive help bring our clients’ stories to life.
What’s your role at Bluestripe Group?
I’m a Senior Account Manager on the PR side of the company, so I act as the day-to-day contact between our clients and the rest of the account team. My role involves managing and delivering PR activity, ensuring everything runs smoothly and effectively. I work closely with Associate Directors to understand each client’s goals and translate those into top tier content that lands meaningful coverage. Part of my role includes supporting and developing junior team members through mentoring and on-the-job training.
I also contribute to the wider success of Bluestripe by getting involved in new business pitches, supporting our own marketing efforts, and helping to connect clients with opportunities through our sister publications, New Digital Age and Retail Media Age.
What drew you to PR?
In all honesty, there’s no grand story about how I’ve always wanted to work in PR – I kind of fell into it. After finishing my undergrad, I bounced around a few temp jobs before trying (and failing) to work in fashion. I actually did end up landing an internship at a fashion PR agency for a couple of months but nothing really came from it. After that I got my first full-time role in a small PR agency – from there, things just clicked and the rest was history.
How do you stay on top of trends in media, advertising and technology?
Trade and national publications are my go-to. It also helps that we do daily newsjacking for our clients, so I’m constantly plugged into the latest headlines and industry shifts as part of my daily routine.
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
Always take your lunch break. I wish I could remember who told me that – it might have been the HR manager at my very first office job – but it’s stuck with me. It’s such a simple thing, but it makes a real difference.
What’s a random skill or hobby you have that would surprise us?
I’m a creative at heart and really into photography. I run a streetstyle account on Instagram where I capture fashion and personal style around London. I’ve taken a bit of a break from it recently, but I’m hoping to get back into it soon – I love seeing how people express themselves through what they wear and having little conversations with them about it.
