Meet the Team - Nell Martin
Next up in our Meet the Team series is Nell, the office organiser with a pencil case ready to solve any problem.
What’s your role at Bluestripe Group?
As one of the PR Senior Account Managers within the team, I’m the main contact for our clients, supporting them to achieve their PR goals, with the support of our internal account teams. This involves managing up and down to ensure activity brings success, and our junior team members are supported in their training and development
I also work closely with the senior team on developing strategies for current and prospective clients, and provide support on Bluestripe marketing efforts through our website and social media.
What drew you to PR?
Like Lucy and Nkechi before me, I fell into the role, rather than looking for it. Having graduated during the pandemic, I was left with fewer opportunities than expected to get experience, so I set up and produced my own blog and social media content to learn more myself. This allowed me to enter a small PR agency in my first full-time position, and I’ve never looked back.
How do you stay on top of trends in media, advertising and technology?
Other members of the team have shared the importance of reading and engaging with the news, so I will share another piece of advice: engage with trends. Don’t just read about TikTok or watch videos on the future of AI; try them out for yourself. Learn to edit a video, try out the AR ad on the side of your screen, or experiment with the big AI trend of the week. This will give you the best knowledge to pass on to other people, whether that’s the rest of your team, or clients and prospects.
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
I was taught early in my working life that it’s not about what you know, but who you know - making connections will make the difference. Understanding how to network effectively will ensure you tap into hidden opportunities and learn from experienced people along the way. Now is the moment to agree to that event, or join the trip to the pub and get yourself out there!
What’s a random skill or hobby you have that would surprise us?
Everyone in my office knows this about me, but I am an F1 superfan - having watched it long before the Drive to Survive trend boosted awareness. My grandad and I have watched it together for years, even filming our reactions in a Gogglebox-style for TikTok. Somehow, we built this up to have over 30k followers, and we were even making money off the back of it! What was most important, though, was that we had the best time creating memories together.
